Sticking to Your Goals: “When life disrupts them at its worst.”

Sticking to Your Goals: “When life disrupts them at its worst.”

This happens with such frequency, that it’s impossible to predict. Every time you start really buckling down on what you need to do to accomplish your goal, same rut happens. Then when I am thoroughly demoralized.  Lying around unmotivated. Everything else in my life seems to calm down, and I’m just left wondering how to pick myself up again.”

“More than often I try to have just one goal at a time, as you suggest. I am focused fully on that one goal. Then all of a sudden, out of the blue, there are the storm of crisis in another part of my life. My boyfriend becomes enormously demanding. My brother gets hospitalized with a serious illness. The boss decides there is an emergency that I have to handle overtime, etc! This happens with such frequency, that it’s impossible to predict. Every time I start really buckling down on what I need to do to accomplish my goal, same rut happens. Then when I am thoroughly demoralized.  Lying around unmotivated. Everything else in my life seems to calm down, and I’m just left wondering how to pick myself up again.”

There was a lady in a family gathering who asked the question. I was totally not in a mood to have a long discussion, because it was surely not the right time to let other be the part of such an intense topic. The other solid reason to avoid the prolonged discussion! The dinner was about to be started (and I was dying from hunger). What I did at that moment was what I do best. I appreciated the question and admitted that lady is not the only one with the issues. I am also the victim of it. So does every one. I also promised to try to have brief remedy to such an issue which I am going to share with you. Before that I am giving you a piece of advice that was given by Jimmy Dean:

“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”

  • Anticipate

Think ahead. Count your would be obstacles, you may face during the implementation/ achievement of the new goal, routine, habit or task. Also look back at your past experience. Last time when you were aligned to do something, what made you stop? Once you have the list of your anticipated problems, conduct a research about how to avoid those issues. If  you cannot avoid the circumstances, find out the remedy to make such less effective.

  • Remedy Selection

It often happens that when you are optimistic about finding a solution you may end up finding solutions more then one. When that happens you are again in a confusion. When you find various paths. Find out the best one that suits you and stick to it. Do not fret. You may find hundred ways towards your goal, based on the suggestion and experience of people around you. Suggestions from all walk of life are important surely, but since you have set your goal by your own self. What matters the most is obviously you. Find the remedy that is most compatible with your way of work and attitude. Then go for it with full blow.

  • Two steps forward, one step backward.

Sticking-to-your-Goals-Steps ForwardOnce you have determined your path after anticipating the possible outcomes. You are now ready for the set backs. It is the time to meet them. You will face it every now and then, it is the part of achieving the goal. If the achievement of the goal would be free from setbacks every one would be going for it and the goal would not be worth achieving.

Instead of seeing these setbacks as discouraging events, accept it as a part of your journey. Analyze yourself in long run that even you have met a miserable mishap but how far you have gone through. If you find that you have moved forward to some extent. Surely you can go beyond and the set back is nothing but welcome time given to you to stay still and think a way to strive. So remember the code “Two steps forward, one step back word.”

  • Fallen! Stand and Learn

From time to time, all of us fail. Every one does. No goal can be achieved with out getting hurt, with out being lost. But instead of letting you stop completely, stand up and dust yourself off, because it is the most important time of your journey. You have fallen, you have gathered courage to stand and move on. But wait don’t haste! Don’t move until you have found what made you to fall. Ask yourself why you failed? What was the obstacle on your way? What should you do when you meet the same situation again? Now you have stood with a strategy, go ahead and embrace your failures and ready to fail next time. Most people have attained there greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure. (I did not say that it was the idea of Napoleon Hill)

  • Keep finding motivation

We all need some reasons so we can stick to our goal and keep doing what we are doing. Often a setback or failure snatches the reason from us. Well it is enough said about how to get back what you have lost(I have also said a lot) but at this point of time the important thing is to get you back the reason that makes you active like the adrenaline in your vain (not singing Whatever it takes by Imagine Dragons).

Simply consider the fact that what made you to start on the first place? What would you have got if you got succeeded? Try to think not in a way that you have failed and the street is closed for you. Consider the challenge and hit the doors harder so the whole neighborhood may hear you. If that doesn’t work too, Simply go to other street to play! After all the city is not short of streets. Find other things around you set another goals no matter how minor and everyday routine task it is. Bounding yourself for doing something particular will inject the fuel in your life that will affect in every other aspects of your life too.
